Founded in 2017, led by the craft spirit gin revolution, Sugarbird’s initial focus was on creating a gin with a perfect balance between floral and citrus notes with an emphasis on our special and unique local ingredients. Being based in Cape Town, with Cape Floral Kingdom on our doorstep offering a wealth of flavour profiles, and it apt that the Sugarbird brand is named after a small bird that occurs only in this Fynbos kingdom.


Our distillation goal was to marry the traditional gin ingredients, such as Juniper, Grains of Paradise and Coriander with this flavourful and diverse fynbos plant species to create a truly special range of  South African gins. 


In the last 2 years our gins have racked up 20 awards, South Africa’s best premium gin by Luxury Lifestyle Awards in 2021 the most notable. IN 2021 we also but we have launched both a 14 year aged pot still brandy, Sugarbird XO, (filtered through honeybush, with a squeeze of honey) giving a new dimension to traditional South African brandy, and Sugarbird Cape Fynbos Rum, a Jamaican style dark Rum with hints of Protea nectar.
